#annreevescelebrates Christmas Traditions

Christmas is a holiday filled with traditions, across countries, communities, and families. The Rockefeller tree lighting, your local church tree lighting, family Christmas caroling, and special Christmas morning breakfasts are just a few examples of special traditions among communities and families. We hope this post inspires you to create new traditions with your family this Christmas season.

Christmas Eve Traditions

Leave cookies for Santa and reindeer food for Rudolph.

Leaving cookies out for Santa is one of the oldest traditions that families love. The reindeer get hungry on their journey, too, so go above and beyond this year by leaving food for the reindeer! There are several cute recipes online, which create a fun activity for you and your kids to do over Christmas break.

Open stockings with matching Christmas pajamas.

Fill your kids’ stockings with matching pajamas each year! Snap a photo on Christmas Eve night in your matching PJs, and you’ll have the sweetest pictures to look back on each Christmas season and watch as your children grow up!

Read the Christmas story and watch your favorite Christmas movie.

Take a moment on Christmas Eve to remember the reason for the season. Read the Christmas story from Luke, move on to A Night Before Christmas, then watch your family's favorite Christmas movie. Whether it’s Eft or A Wonderful Life, this will be a fun tradition your children will love for years to come,

Christmas Morning Traditions

Make a special Christmas Breakfast.

Sausage balls and monkey bread make a very Southern Christmas breakfast. Enjoying these easy finger foods while unwrapping presents is something that makes Christmas feel real. Consider making an annual Christmas breakfast, like this sausage, egg, and cheese casserole for your family to enjoy every Christmas morning!

Look for signs of Santa.

Has Santa taken a bite of the cookies you left? Maybe had a little sip of the milk, too? What about the reindeer food, was that eaten up? These are all sweet signs that Santa’s Sleigh landed on your rooftop. Take it a step further, whether it’s a “sooty” kiss on your kid’s forehead or a snowy footprint next to the cookie plate, looking for signs that Santa really came to your house makes Christmas morning that much more magical!

Elizabeth’s Christmas Day Traditions

For Elizabeth, Ann + Reeves founder, Christmas consists of lots of family time, squeezing in trips to look at Christmas lights, visiting Santa at the Junior League of Houston, a trip to Neiman's to shop, and finding Christmas festivities all across their city. Their family enjoys each others’ company as they await the magic that is Christmas morning. On Christmas day, all of her family gathers to watch the little kids tear open Santa presents ending in a delicious Christmas breakfast! With the arrival of Margaret, Elizabeth started hosting this tradition for her family. After the morning, Elizabeth's parents, known as Nana and Gompie to Margaret, host the extended family for a gift exchange and yummy Christmas dinner. Elizabeth says her favorite part might be the chocolate pie!
