6 Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is such a fun time of year. Everyone is excited that the new year just started and that spring is right around the corner. Who doesn’t love an excuse to celebrate? At Ann + Reeves, we take any opportunity to get festive. We love the colors of Valentine’s Day and the traditions that are so easy and fun to create with your family. We love Valentine’s candy hearts and leaving little love notes around the house throughout the entire month of February. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we’re here to share how #annreevescelebrates: Valentine’s Day Edition. We hope this series inspires you to create new traditions and celebrations with your family. Pick and choose the traditions that excite you the most, and be sure to share them with us on social media by tagging @annreeveskids and #annreevescelebrates.

Valentine’s Day breakfast

We believe every holiday should start with a great breakfast! On Valentine’s Day, we love making red velvet pancakes in the shape of hearts. This is such a fun way to start the day. We opt for a healthier recipe that uses beet powder for the red color instead of using red food coloring. If you really want to make it easy on yourself, use a prepackaged mix like Kodiak Cakes or Birch Benders. There are also great gluten-free options like one from Bob’s Red Mill. Whatever recipe or mix you choose, you’ll want to use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to get that signature heart shape for Valentine’s Day! Make sure to grease the cookie cutter as well as your griddle. Then pour about ¼ cup of the pancake batter into the center of the cookie cutter and let cook for 3-4 minutes, depending on how hot your griddle is. Tap the cutter to release the pancake and then flip the pancake to finish cooking. Serve with powdered sugar and real maple syrup. If you want to make these even more special, put pink and red heart sprinkles in the batter!

Trade handmade Valentine’s

Everyone remembers trading little Valentine’s cards at school. Make yours extra special by DIY-ing them at home. We love this idea to create a tic-tac-toe game and use M&Ms for playing the game. Use a premade template or have your child draw each game on a card. Then, fill a baggie with the card and 10 M&Ms, 5 reds and 5 pinks. It’s a quick and cute Valentine's note that doubles as a game.

Wear Pink and Red to School

We love an excuse to dress for a holiday! Wear whatever you have that’s pink or red or dress up in your favorite Ann + Reeves Valentine’s Day outfit. This year, we released several collections for Valentine’s Day including My Whole Heart, You’re Dino-Mite, and Puppy Love. We collaborated with Evelyn Henson on the puppy print for the Puppy Love collection featuring little paintings of dogs in all shapes and sizes. Girls can top these outfits off with a big red bow and boys can wear cute red socks with their tennis shoes or white bucks.

Valentine’s Movie Night

Have a family movie night and watch your family’s favorite Valentine’s movies. We love Return To Me, The Princess Bride, and Tangled! Make a fun Valentine’s movie snack like these cute Valentine’s Day fruit kebabs or Valentine’s trail mix. All of these recipes are kid-friendly, and make memories in the kitchen! Check out our #annereevescelebrates Valentine’s Movie Checklist to make the most out of this Valentine’s Season.

Pack a Valentine’s Day Lunch

For a special Valentine’s Day lunch, make heart-shaped pizzas or cut your child’s peanut butter and jelly sandwich into a heart. There are so many ways to use a heart-shaped cookie cutter! You can cut cubes of cheese, cucumbers, carrots, apples, strawberries, and more!

Wear matching Valentine’s Day pajamas

We love a chance to get all the kids in matching pajamas. Put them all in some Pima cotton heart printed pajamas and have a little photo session before ending the night with a Valentine’s Day movie from our checklist.
